The University of Iowa’s Graduate College has awarded 35 doctoral students with Ballard and Seashore Dissertation Year Fellowships for 2014. Ballard and Seashore Fellowships are intended to help students in the social sciences and humanities complete their dissertations.
Fellowships and Scholarships. Various fellowships are available through the Graduate College for dissertation research and writing including the T. Anne Cleary International Research Fellowship and the Ada Louis Ballard and Seashore Dissertation Year Fellowship.
Our graduate students regularly apply for and receive University of Iowa and nationally competitive grants and fellowships. They also participate in graduate, regional, and national conferences and publish in peer-reviewed venues. Ballard and Seashore Dissertation-Year Fellowships. Ballard and Seashore Dissertation Fellowships are one semester fellowships for doctoral candidates who have completed all doctoral degree requirements except their dissertation. Recipients are nominated by their departments.
Diehl dissertation-year fellowship as well as for the five departmental research support awards and the Best Essay Prize. Although students are urged to apply in all relevant categories, winners of the Ballard and Seashore Fellowship and CLAS Dissertation Writing Fellowship are not eligible for the Diehl fellowship.
Ian Faith, Ph.D. is a Visiting Assistant Professor in Rhetoric at the University of Iowa. His research focuses on contemporary literature, new media, and digital cultures, and has appeared in the Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism, The Iowa Review, and First Person Scholar. His current project shows the various influences of video game design on contemporary media forms, especially.
